As oil prices skyrocket and the earth’s natural reserve gradually begins to disappear, ‘green’ practices have become more and more popular. Citizens from around the world have slowly begun to experience the effects of selfish and unsupervised practices carried out within all trades and industries. As humans as we are, we always tend to think of ourselves first and then sometimes, about the rest.

In Costa Rica, this philosophy has been strongly present among the tourism authorities. Costa Rica’s tourism industry represents an approximate 10% of the country’s income and is based entirely on its nature and biodiversity. This reality has lead authorities to educate and promote green practices among the tourism industry.

The Costa Rican Tourism Board (ICT) created its Sustainable Tourism Certificate Program (CST) in which hotels, tour operators and all tourism related companies receive a 2 to 4 leaf distinction depending on their commitment and contribution to the environment as well as its community.

Hotel PURE has grasped this philosophy as a number of GREEN hotels approached the company interested in joining. Their commitment and well doing to the environment dazzled Hotel PURE giving way to its new Hotel PURE GREEN brand.

Hotel PURE is more than pleased with its decision and seeks to actively promote this type of lodging through its GREEN brand due to its positive response. Renowned news media such the Miami Herald has even featured the company’s press release in its printed issue thus reassuring Hotel PURE management of the importance and need of focusing on critical issues such as the environment.
